Back Story

First I want to talk about my favourite topic, food! I want to start off by stating that I am not a vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, or any other form of a specific eater. I eat meat, vegetables, starches, carbs, fats, and anything in between. What I am trying to get across here is that I do not follow a specific eating style, I was raised on a farm and agriculture is something I have a great appreciation for. I know where my food comes from and have such a deep appreciation for the essential role the agriculture industry plays in the world. I was involved in 4H beef growing up and it showed me how much work goes into raising cattle, any animal for that matter. I believe the media sways people’s opinions on what is right and what is wrong and people often overlook the importance of a well-balanced diet.

Some things that have happened over the past two years have required me to make a few adjustments to the variety of foods I eat. I was on some pretty intense medication for about a year that required me to stop taking birth control pills that my doctor prescribed me for my skin at an early age. Therefore I had to stop one medication and begin a new intense one due to a medical condition that arose. I noticed my skin was getting severely bad and painful so I had some tests done. I learned that my digestive system was completely shot. One of the tests reviled that I was insensitive to a few of the major foods in my diet. These included: dairy, gluten, egg whites, and oats were the major elevated foods. The goal was to eliminate these foods for a while in order to heal my gut and then down the line I would be able to reintroduce them.

My love for food is still very much intact, I did find it a challenge to find new recipes and meals to make that satisfied my tastebuds and kept me full. I love to wing it when it comes to most things so you can expect some trial and error to take place but that’s part of the fun and some learning for ya. So here I am, fresh out of university, back at my parent’s house because of COVID, and some extra time on my hands. So I hope to share some ideas and things that worked and failed in the kitchen. I am by no means an expert of any kind I just thought maybe someone else has these odd restrictions and could use some inspiration!
